Meet the Co-Founders
Rebecca and Emily each have a long background in building and leading teams. They met when they needed to stand up a new product design function in a fully scaled enterprise. Drawing on their complimentary expertise in software design, education, and UX design, they grew the team from 1 to 28 UX Designers, Learning Designers, UX Writers, Ops Specialists, and Communications Specialists in the following two years. They implemented new processes, crafted organizational structures that facilitated collaboration, and developed a productive and joyful culture among the fully remote team. By bringing together design, education, research, and a deep understanding of the product lifecycle, they are able to quickly identify areas in need of transformation and bring clarity and effectiveness to broken processes.
Dr. Rebecca Baker
Director of Product Management,
Previously VP Product Design & Research, VP of UX, Senior Director of Interaction Design & Research.
Rebecca started her career as a research assistant at the Space Vacuum Epitaxy Center doing cool stuff with science and moved into software when she discovered physics didn’t have enough people-y bits. She has authored a book, Agile UX Storytelling: A zombie software case study (available on Amazon, it makes an excellent gift), holds a patent for Information Encapsulation, and has spoken at a ridiculous number of conferences.
A UX Jedi, excellent listener, and dungeon master, Dr. Baker’s publications and talks span topics from technical writing to remote usability testing to agile UX processes and beyond. She has built and led numerous UX and research teams at the enterprise level spanning a variety of industries, targeting effectively integrating UX into the Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC). She is currently obsessed with making UX a standard part of any company's strategy.
Emily Masterson, MFA
Director of User Experience
Previously UX Solutions Architect, AVP of Product Design, Associate Dean of Innovation, Strategy, and Experience Design
Emily developed and taught programs in UX, design, and color theory at a small independent art college where she began identifying opportunities to design a better student journey and use technology to improve their experiences. From here, Emily became passionate for UX design, realizing that through UX we can make a real impact with people who need it the most.
Emily has led extremely talented teams of UX Designers, UX Writers, Learning Experience Designers, and Communication Designers and worked alongside the most brilliant product colleagues in the industry (and is absolutely not biased in any way). Emily has over 12 years in the higher education industry teaching UX and designing new products and experiences aimed at making learning more accessible, enjoyable, and useful. Among other things, Emily is passionate about all things crafting, pretending she knows how to play D&D, and expertly timed gifs and memes in work meetings and presentations.
